Igor Shesterkin Injured in Rangers’ Game Against Capitals

The incident occurred halfway through the second period when Shesterkin, moving out of his crease to challenge a shooter, caught his skate on the post while sliding back, causing him to collapse into the net. He was seen clutching his right knee and was unable to put weight on his right leg as teammates assisted him off the ice.

Rangers coach Mike Sullivan expressed his concerns after the game, emphasizing the gravity of losing such an elite player. ‘It’s concerning, obviously,’ Sullivan stated. ‘He’s an elite goaltender, and you don’t want to ever see anyone get hurt. But, obviously, he’s an important player for us.’ Rangers captain J.T. Miller echoed these sentiments, highlighting the shock and the need for the team to step up in Shesterkin’s absence.

The game concluded with a 3-1 loss for the Rangers. Shesterkin, who had stopped 13 of 14 shots before his exit, which led to backup goalie Dylan Garand stepping in. Garand allowed one deciding goal but managed to save 11 out of 12 shots. Despite the upset, Miller remained optimistic, mentioning the team’s intent to continue strong performances.
